In an encore of “The Business Beat,” Steve D’Agostino interviews Bill Moore, founder and voluntary president and CEO of Project New Hope. They talk about helping veterans rebuild with honor. This episode aired originally on December 3, 2017.

After attending a weekend retreat in 2010 with Project New Hope of Minnesota and talking with founder Bruce Billington, Worcester resident Bill Moore established his own charitable non-profit in 2011 in Worcester, called Project New Hope Inc.

Since its inception, Project New Hope Inc. has helped thousands of veterans as well as their spouses or partners, and their children. This past year has been one of unprecedented forward momentum. Project New Hope is offering more retreats and programs, networking with organizations, and strengthening its ties within the community. In addition, service members and veterans from coast to coast are attending its retreats, and spreading the word about Project New Hope.

Bill Moore was born and raised in Worcester. While serving in the Air Force as a crash-rescue firefighter, he was injured in a successful rescue of two pilots from a burning F-111. He was discharged honorably with a service-connected disability.

Bill attended Assumption College under the GI Bill, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies in 1996, and a Master of Arts in Rehabilitation Counseling in 2000. He also earned an Associate in Science in 1992 from Quinsigamond Community College.

Prior to starting Project New Hope, Bill held numerous positions with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts: as a laborer with the Metropolitan District Commission; as a juvenile-corrections worker for the Department of Youth Services; as an adolescent social worker with the Department of Social Services; and as a disabled-veterans outreach-program specialists with Workforce Central, in the Division of Career Services. He retired from state employment in 2007.

Bill is the recipient of the distinguished Armed Forces Committee of Worcester County Award of Merit, the Captain Thomas J. Hudner Hero Award, and the Citizen’s Bank 2015 Champion in Action, among many other awards.
