In an encore of "The Business Beat," Steve D'Agostino interviews Carolyn Read, executive director of Habitat for Humanity - North Central Massachusetts. They talk about truly safe and affordable housing for all people. This episode aired originally on July 15, 2018.

Habitat for Humanity is a global, non-profit housing organization working in local communities across all 50 states in the U.S., as well as in some 70 countries. Habitat’s vision is of a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Habitat works toward realizing that vision by building strength, stability and self-reliance in partnership with families who are in need of decent and affordable housing. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers, and pay an affordable mortgage.

The North Central Mass. organization’s fifth annual Building Dreams Golf Tournament will be held on Tuesday, September 18 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Shaker Hills Country Club in Harvard. In the spirit of full disclosure, Steve does volunteer public-relations work for this Golf Tournament.

Carolyn is shown posing with Steve Moon, construction manager of the North Central Mass. organization. They are at the group's current renovation project, a duplex apartment building at 43-45 School Street in Acton. This historical, affordable duplex is being updated to two, three-bedroom homes.
