In an encore “The Business Beat,” Steve Jones-D’Agostino interviews Jesus Pereira, founder of Vet Air. They talk about flying veterans in need of medical care. This episode aired originally on November 12, 2017.

Vet Air is taking flight in a meaningful way. Founded in 2015 in Holyoke, the charitable non-profit is committed to ensuring that veterans have the necessary travel solutions to and from their medical-care appointments - free of charge.

Vet Air does this by partnering with a network of volunteer pilots, aircraft owners, commercial aviators, and ground-transport providers dedicated to providing transportation to veterans. For example, Vet Air aims to transport a person from northern Massachusetts to Southern Connecticut in about 40 minutes. Vet Air has flown patients to destinations as far away as Florida.

Vet Air founder Jesus Pereira is also a veteran of the Army National Guard, having served a 10-month deployment to Kuwait. He was named Veteran of the Year in 2015 by the City of Holyoke. And, since May 2017, he has worked as the City of Holyoke’s veterans-services officer.
